Indian way of feeding rabbit

Rabbit Healthy feeding - Indian style:

Indian style of raising rabbit will be quite different from western as the food supply you get differs from region to region.
You cannot find a Timothy hay or any other western hay that most of the post shows you to feed rabbits.

    2. This diet is very bad for a rabbit. They must never eat puffed rice or biscuits. Serious long term damage and short life. They need 80-90% fresh grass/hay. Hay can be bought online from websites like amazon.

    3. Yes, you're right. After extensive research and trial and error , I have changed my rabbits diet. He gets 80% Timothy hay, some fresh veggies and fruits in very less amount. I posted this 4 years ago and now my bun is 5 years old.

    1. try plucking the grass and drying it out completely. rabbits need fresh water and dry foods. avoid feeding any kind of wet food because their digestive systems arent strong enough to manage

    1. Rabbits do not like to wear clothes, they are prey animals and the clothes might hurt them. Leave them as they are, clothes are unnecessary.

    1. You can make your own hay buy cutting fresh Bermuda grass or lawn grass and wash them thoroughly with water then dry them under the sun for 2-3 hours in summer. This way you can make hay on your own. If you want to buy Timothy hay in bulk you can contact Himalayan Horse India. They are an Indian company but might help you with the source.

  30. Rabbits can eat leafy greens like kalmi saak/ water spinach in moderate amount. Fresh grass or hay should constitute 80% of their diet. Most of the websites stress on timothy hay or alfalfa hay as most of the time they talk about European rabbits or pets. There the climate and availability of greens differ and so as the life style of a rabbit. In European countries most of the time they have a cold weather that forces them to synthetic food. Indian rabbit diets could be compared to other asian countries like vietnam, Burma etc where climatic conditions and vegetation are similar to india. Also anyone can follow research papers published on dietary supplements like kolmi saak/ water spinach. They provide all essential nutrients to the bunny. Cucumber, tomatoes without seeds, tulsi, mint, corriender, baby spinach are good choices. Carrots are occasional treats. Avoid Malabar spinach/pui saak. Avoid cereals and grains. Since it takes a bunny almost 6 hours to digest a moderate quantity of food , serving food thrice or 4 times a day is good for bunnies health.

  36. I have a 3 months old male rabbit. He doesn't like the alfalfa pellets I bought for him online and he also doesn't like hay for even a day old grass. He ONLY eats grass if its freshly cut and given to him and only eats the soft wide leaves one.. doesn't even eat durva/ bermuda grass. What should I do as everywhere its written that grass/ hay should be 80%
    of a rabbit's diet?
He only eats fresh leafy vegetables like water spinach, romaine lettuce, dill, coriander, cabbage and cauliflower leaves, etc. I also give him carrot, tomato, cucumber and fruits in less quantity as a treat. I've never even seen him drink any water till now but he urinates just fine. Is this normal? What should I do to make him eat more grass?
